Heifer International

Heifer was founded on a "teach a man to fish" philosophy; rather than perpetually maintaining a stream of food to impoverished communities, every donation to Heifer helps those communities achieve sustainable, independent relief from hunger and poverty.
Through Heifer International, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization headquartered in Little Rock, AK, we as a community have the opportunity to provide a hungry family with livestock. The family completes training, prepares any needed infrastructure, and then can benefit from and sell the milk, wool, fertilizer and offspring their animal(s) produce. Livestock ranges from pigs and sheep to rabbits and bees.
Heifer’s trademark tradition, however, is Passing on the Gift®: each participant agrees to give one or more of their animal's offspring to another family in need, thus spreading the gift of hope and opportunity to an entire community.
